KEVIN MAIMANN | QMI AGENCY EDMONTON - Alberta and British Columbia are joining forces to expand Western Canada's energy industry. Alberta Premier Alison Redford and B.C. Premier Christy Clark released terms of reference Tuesday that aim to grow export opportunities and create new jobs in the oil and gas sector. The terms were devised by a joint working group formed in July. "There's been an ongoing dialogue between British Columbia and Alberta since the premiers determined to proceed with this," said Cal Dallas, Alberta's minister of international and intergovernmental relations. The terms announced Tuesday focus on five main areas: consulting with First Nations populations, exploring various resource transportation options, harmonizing spill response efforts, ensuring fair fiscal and economic benefits for both provinces and raising public awareness of responsible resource development. The group plans to release a final report on Dec. 31 with recommendations and an action plan.
