YOUR OPPORTUNITY:
As a Construction Manager at Horizon Oil Sands, you be primarily responsible for managing constructability reviews of Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractors to ensure proper construction strategies and practices are applied during Engineering while leading quality and safety efforts during the execution of the construction of the Horizon Oil Sands Project. In this role, you will have the ability to grow your career within Horizon by eventually transitioning to more complex projects and other areas of the company. The successful commissioning and start up will be the definition of success for this individual.

You will be exposed to a wide variety of processes and systems encompassing some or all of the following:
• Oil Sands Extraction and Froth Treatment
• Gravity separation
• Cyclone separation
• Slurry transportation
• Process heating and mixing systems
• Steam, water and air systems
• Other piping, mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment related to process facilities

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
• Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray
• Company Sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out and Accommodations Program with charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Overcome the challenges with thorough understanding of the importance of process reliability and maintainability activities required for successful process plant operations
• Meet the project budget, the engineering, procurement and construction schedule and successfully complete and hand-over of the facilities to Operations
• Manage the monitoring and appraisal of EPC contractors, to ensure proper construction strategies and practices are applied during Engineering (Constructability reviews) and off-site and on-site Construction
• Confirm that effective corrective action has been taken for all identified deficiencies as necessary to complete the facilities consistent with schedule, specifications, procedures, company objectives and construction management best practices
• Participate during the Engineering phase of the Project to assure proper strategies are in place to implement a Construction driven design
• Assist in the preparation of construction budget estimates, construction schedules, milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
• Assist in the preparation of contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with suppliers and subcontractors
• Develop and implement quality control programs
• Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules
• Review detailed construction work packages (CWPs) and Field Installation Packages (FIPs) to ensure completeness of information and adequate integration with engineering, procurement and construction
• Direct the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff
• Lead the construction safety effort within their assigned contract work package to keep lost time injuries to an absolute minimum, in keeping with Canadian Natural/Horizon and Industry standards

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 15+ years of construction management experience, preferably in oil sands, refineries, oil and gas plants and/or large construction projects
• Engineering Degree and completion of the Construction Management Certification, or related course
• Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
• Familiarity with and understanding of:
o Large International Contractors/EPC firms
o Projects in Northern and/or International environments
