Position Overview


The Gas Plant Operator will be part of a dynamic team working at the Talisman Edson Gas Plant; the plant is a First Class Steam Plant and World-Class facility, which processes sour and sweet gas and liquid hydrocarbons utilizing onsite compression, (2) Amine (MDEA) gas sweetening trains, (2) lean oil adsorption systems, condensate stabilization, and (2) Sulfur Recovery trains with Superclaus Technology. The Edson Gas Plant uses a state of the art Honeywell Experion DCS interfaced to ten different gas fields. Unique to our facility is an open-cycle Cogeneration unit, utilizing gas turbines driving AC generators supplying 10MW of power to the local grid and plant, and producing a combined 200 mlbs/hr of high pressure steam for the plant from the turbine waste gas.



Responsibilities



As a member of the Operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operations of the Edson Gas Plant.
Capable of operating with sweet and sour gas processing, hydrocarbon refining, and/or liquid hydrocarbon recovery systems.
Responsible for the safe and reliable operations of the Edson Gas Plant using a state of the art Honeywell DCS
Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform minor repairs and servicing
Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe and acceptable condition
Identify and contribute ideas to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime
Maintain personal and facility daily event logs
Ensure all work is performed safely and efficiently in accordance with Talisman guidelines and all provincial and federal codes, standards, and regulations
Work in a team atmosphere and take on a variety of operating challenges
Maintain good relations with area residents and stakeholders
Can demonstrate commitment and measurable progress in their Power Engineering career and education.

Requirements:
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:



Power Engineers: 2nd , 3rd or 4th class certificate preferred but not mandatory
Industrial Safety Training
Control Room training and experience considered an asset
Experience with boiler operation and power generation systems
Experience in hydrocarbon processing, refining, and/or liquids recovery processes
Experience with SCADA would be considered an asset
Self-motivated individual, capable of working without supervision and committed to successfully meeting safety, production, cost, and environmental goals for the area
Strong computer (Microsoft Word, Excel, Email, ability to learn company specific programs) skills and enhanced petroleum industry training is an asset
Valid driver’s license
